- How much do backlinks cost, and what are you actually paying for? A single editorial placement on a real site with real traffic runs roughly $150 to $800, and climbs past $2,000 on sites with genuine authority in a competitive niche. Anything under about $50 a link is a network, and a network is a liability you will pay to remove later.
- How many backlinks do I need to rank? There is no universal number. The usable answer comes from the results page you want to be on: look at the referring domain counts of the pages currently ranking three to seven, and treat the median as your target. For most small business terms that is somewhere between fifteen and sixty referring domains, not thousands of links.
